Obituary
Springfield- Vidal M. Sanchez, 80, beloved husband of 58 years to Bernice (Gabanelli) Velez, passed away on September 8, 2018.
Vidal was born on April 28, 1938 in Lugar Nacimiento Yabucoa, Puerto Rico; but was a Springfield resident all his life.
He served his country in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge on October 29, 1957.
Vidal was employed as a machinist for Gillette, South Boston. He was also a very active member along with his wife for the Springfield Action Commission, helping out with community work for the unemployed and the underemployed. He attended Sacred Heart Church in Springfield.
Besides his wife Vidal is survived by his 5 children, Michael Velez, Henry Matias, Diane Velez, Marie Velez, Vidal Velez; 3 brothers, George Matias, Rafael Sanchez, Pablo Matias; many grand and great grand children; along with extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his two sisters, Carmine DeJesus and Juanita Matias.
The family will gather and receive friends from 3:00PM – 6:00PM on Thursday (September 13, 2018) in the Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 45 Locust Street, Springfield.
