Teresa L. Mulligan

East Longmeadow- Teresa (Lydon) Mulligan, 83, Passed away peacefully on May 17, 2018 surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.

Teresa was married to “the love of her life” the late Michael Mulligan who passed away in February 2015. She was also predeceased by her two brothers, John and Patrick Lydon and a sister Mary Ann Brien.

Teresa was born in Ma’am Cross, Co Galway, Ireland, on August 3, 1934 a daughter of the late William and Delia (Coyne) Lydon and immigrated to the US in the late 1950’s after living in London for several years. She raised her family in the Forest Park area of Springfield and was a parishioner of Holy Name Parish before moving to East Longmeadow in 1985.

Teresa was devoted to her family and worked tirelessly to ensure their happiness. She could often be seen on her frequent walks around East Longmeadow and was happiest on a warm beach surrounded by people she loved. She had many lifelong friends including Helene Sears, Ethel Heneghan and Margaret Beek whose visits and friendship she cherished.

Teresa was a woman of strong faith and was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church, East Longmeadow.

She is survived by her beloved children, Maureen Murphy and her husband Peter of Monson, MA, Michael Mulligan and his wife Mary, of Charlotte, NC, Sheila Godfrey and her husband Tom, of Marshfield, MA, Bill Mulligan and his wife Sue, of Barkhamsted, CT, and Terry Mulligan of East Longmeadow. She also leaves behind a brother Brendan Lydon and a sister Sheila Laffey both of Galway, Ireland. Her 10 grandchildren were the light of her life and she cherished time spent with Ryan, Sean and Lauren Murphy; Brendan and Katie Godfrey; Colin and Quinn Mulligan; Dylan , Cameron and Connor Mulligan; and many extended family members here and in Ireland and England.

Funeral services will begin at 8:45 AM on Tuesday (May 22, 2018) from the Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow; a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00AM in St. Michael’s Church, 128 Maple Street, East Longmeadow. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Rd., Springfield.

The family will receive friends from 4:00PM-7:00PM on Monday (May 21, 2018) in the funeral home.
