Susan A. Controvich

Springfield – Susan Adell (Newberry) Controvich passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023 in Baystate Medical Center. Susan will be remembered for dedicated work ethic, the love she had for her family, her compassion to help others, her will to fight obstacles, including her most recent with Parkinson’s.

Born in Hartford CT, Susan was a 1962 graduate of East Longmeadow High School and 1974 graduate of Westfield State College. She was a licensed Social Worker by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Susan began her career with the American Red Cross where she became the Director of Emergency Services, and then later worked for Greater Springfield Senior Services, retiring in 2004 as Case Manager. Susan had many interests, including spending time with her family, her pets, painting, traveling and line-dancing.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years, James Controvich; her son, Vincent Pelletier of Wilbraham and his wife Denise; her grandchildren, Stefani Wright-Pelletier and Alyssa Pelletier; and her siblings, Linda Steininger and Richard Newberry. Susan is predeceased by her parents, Dorothy (Jewett) and Meigs Newberry, her brother Lewis Newberry, and her former husband Richard T. Pelletier.

To honor and remember Susan’s life, family and friends are invited to gather for visiting hours on Saturday, May 27, 2023 from 1:00-3:00pm, with a memorial service at 3:00pm at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation on 220 N.
