Marjorie M. Steiger

Marjorie Steiger (nee: Mogg) passed away on October 19th at the age of 95.  She is predeceased by her loving husband of fifty-four years, George Aldrich Pettersen, and her husband Philip Chauncey Steiger Jr , with whom she spent fourteen wonderful years of marriage.  She is also predeceased by her brother, Donald Mogg and step-sister, Alice Jones.  She leaves her son, Robert Pettersen (Janine McVay), daughters Nancy Strelau (Paul), Susan Nee (Bob), grandchildren Andrew, Lauren, Emily, Colin, Hadley, Philip Steiger’s children Jane, Allen (Diane), R.D. (Meg), Les (Barbara) and their families, and, most important, her beloved cat and companion, Oscar. Born in Hinsdale, Illinois in 1925, Marjorie earned a BA in Political Science and Economics from DePauw University.  Soon after marrying in 1947, she and George moved to Winchester, Massachusetts, and in 1966 relocated to Longmeadow with their family.  She found great joy in raising three children and being a fun-loving Grammy. Marjorie was an avid reader, worked at Storr’s Library, and enjoyed traveling, watching sports, and playing tennis and bridge. She was a member of Longmeadow Country Club and First Church of Christ, Longmeadow.   Marjorie was a warm and loving grandmother, mother and wife, and a gracious friend, whose dry wit and sense of humor will long be remembered. Always politically astute, even during her final days, Marge insisted on mailing in her vote early. Services are entrusted to Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation and a private family service will take place at Longmeadow Cemetery.
