Maria E. Escobar

Maria E. Escobar, 90, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2022. Maria was born in Madruga, Cuba, daughter of the late Sebastian and Cristina (Torres) Gabarro. 

She moved to the United States in the winter of 1967 along with her husband, Tomas, and their three children for a better life. They arrived in Western Massachusetts where Tomas’s brother, who immigrated years earlier, lived.

After years of raising their children, she worked at MassMutual and retired in 1992. Her greatest joys were cooking Cuban meals (she made the best black beans), traveling with her husband, raising her children and watching her grandchildren grow up. 

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Tomas Escobar, in 2010.  She is survived by her three beloved children, Milagros “Millie” Tangredi and her husband Paul of Enfield, CT, Jesus “Joe” Escobar and his wife Kim of Longmeadow and Juan Carlos Escobar and his husband William Kelley of Brooklyn, NY and her brother Osvaldo Gabarro and his wife Alicia of Miami, FL. She was a devoted grandmother to four grandchildren, Michael, Nick, Cristina and Isabella and two great-grandsons, Louis and Ben. 

Forastiere Smith Funeral Home in East Longmeadow has been entrusted with all the arrangements and services will be private as requested by the family.
