Margaret “Peg” Lucille (DeMontigny), 75, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2021 with her family by her side. Peggy was born on July 6, 1946 in Springfield MA to the late Charles and Mary (Loomis) DeMontigny. After graduating Cathedral High School (1964), Peggy attended Westfield State College, Springfield College and graduated from UMass with a PhD in Psychology. Peggy was a teacher of Science at Thorton Burgess for many years before opening her own Private Practice of twenty-five years for Psychology in Enfield CT.
Peggy met her loving husband Edmond in 1965, they married in 1969, and together they had fifty-two wonderful years. They enjoyed traveling to Rome, Ireland and many scenic sights in the United States.
Peggy was a devoted communicant of St. Mary’s Parish in Longmeadow, and her big heart was filled with faith and love for her family and community.
Peggy was a life-long learner and educator. She was an avid reader and loved painting and crossword puzzles. She loved her golden retrievers, and spending time with her family and friends.
Peggy leaves behind her loving husband Edmond Flaherty of Longmeadow, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will start on Wednesday July 28, 2021 with calling hours from 8-10am at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation, 220 N. Main St., East Longmeadow MA. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am in St. Mary’s Parish, 519 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 577 Carew St., Springfield MA 01104.
