Obituary

East Longmeadow - Lillian “Rosetta” (McCarthy) Welch, 89, beloved mother and grandmother passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born in Springfield to the late William and Susan (Albro) McCarthy on February 11, 1929. Rosetta was a 1946 graduate of Classical High School in Springfield and went on to further her education at Bay Path Jr. College. She was employed at New England Telephone and Telegraph for many years and was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church until its closing and then St. Michael’s Church. Rosetta had a passion for helping others through volunteering. Cape Cod was Rosetta’s second home where she loved spending long days at the beach with her family. A traveler at heart she enjoyed trips to England, Ireland, Hawaii, Florida and the West Coast. Her 5 children and 6 grandchildren were her greatest joy. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her loving husband of 29 years, Robert “Speed” A. Welch who died in 1990. She is survived by her sons, Lee Welch and his wife Marybeth of Windsor, CT, and Mark Welch and his wife Patricia of Westfield, MA; her daughters, Judy Welch of Chatham, MA, Nancy Thurber and her husband Peter of Springfield, MA and Sally Largey of Eastham, MA; her grandchildren, Eric, Michael, Jenna, Adam, Casie, and John Patrick; and her lifelong friends, Claire Haggins and Tessie Stotz. Rosetta’s family would like to thank everyone at East Village Place for their loving care and support. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, October 22nd from 4-7PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, MA. Rosetta’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 23rd from the funeral home at 8:45AM followed by a funeral Mass at St. Michael’s Church in East Longmeadow at 10AM. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at: www.michaeljfox.org.
