Obituary
Gladys (Kouri) A. Abdow, known to all as Glay, of Longmeadow MA passed into glory surrounded by her family on March 8, 2018.
She was born in Worcester MA to Lebanese immigrants, Alex and Sadie Kouri, and she a graduate of Worcester Public School System before going to work at the family’s clothing store, A. M. Kouri Women’s Department Store. In 1957 she married Ronald J. Abdow, also of Worcester. Ron and Glay moved to Longmeadow MA in 1963 to build their family’s restaurant business. Glay was a devoted tennis player, fashion aficionado, and local fashion consultant, but primarily she was a mother of three and a grandmother of five. She worked at Milton Bradley doing market research, and was a salesperson at the clothing boutique Perion and A.O. Whites for Women for many years. Glay was one of the five founding members of the Longmeadow Newcomers Club. The family looked forward to Thanksgiving feasts at her home every year as well as her wonderful Lebanese cooking. Her vivacious smile will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ron of Longmeadow, MA; two sons, Steven Abdow and his wife Susan (Hadad) of Amherst and David Abdow and his wife Cristen (Moore) of Boston; daughter Ellen Abdow of Boston; two sisters Vi Massad and Lorraine Lian and her husband Joseph Lian; brother Eddie Kouri and his wife Grace; sisters in law Phyllis (Abdow) Lavallee and Janet (Rucki) Abdow; her beloved grandchildren, Luke, Erik, Jessica, Lucy and Colin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Glay is predeceased by her brothers William and Paul Kouri and her sister Lily Courey.
Visiting hours are Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 4:00-7:00pm at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home in East Longmeadow. The funeral for Gladys will be at 11:00am on Friday, March 16, 2018 in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield. Glay will Lie in State prior to the funeral from 10:00am-11:00am in the cathedral.
