Obituary

Cynthia P. Hill, 72, passed away on September 11, 2020 in Springfield, MA. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, on July 2, 1948, and grew up in Westfield, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Robert S. and Dorothy Jean (Ludlow) Hill.

Cindy obtained her LPN license and devoted her nearly fifty-year working career to the care of elderly, psychiatric, and veteran patients, working at hospitals, nursing homes, and for private patients. She won Florence Nightingale awards for excellent patient care at several institutions.

She loved helping people and making them laugh, creating beauty, and caring for animals. Unconventional, creative and loving, she enjoyed all of nature, especially the beauty of the mountains. For many years she and her partner lived in a log cabin they designed and built themselves in the Adirondack Park of New York state, and the story of the cabin was featured in the September/October 1979 issue of Mother Earth News.

An accomplished artist with a droll sense of humor, Cindy worked in a variety of media, including water colors, acrylics, India ink, and natural materials like wildflowers and crystals. She created delightful greeting cards and postcards as well as collages, paintings, and wreaths. She also studied tattooing and lent her artistic talents to her clients’ designs.

Cindy will be sorely missed by her sisters Catherine Hill of Virginia, Christine Robinson of California, Deborah Mygatt of Connecticut, and Denise Ruterbories of North Carolina, as well as numerous nephews and nieces and their families.

Memorial contributions in Cynthia’s memory may be made to The Humane Society of the United States 1255 23rd Street, NW, Suite 450, Washington, DC 20037.
