Barbara Torrey

East Longmeadow – Barbara Loris (Vantine) Torrey, 89, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on May 3, 2021. Barbara was born in Springfield on April 23, 1932 to the late Donald and Edith (Noyes) Vantine. Born one of four girls, Barbara grew up in the Springfield area, she loved to square dance, and worked at B & B Market in East Longmeadow. Barbara met her love Richard Torrey Sr., and together they raised a family in East Longmeadow. Together they played in Bowling Tournaments and loved to travel for family trips, including Cape Cod. Barbara loved to read, she was a member of the Eastern Star and she worked in the kitchen of the EL Senior Center. She will be deeply missed by her son Bruce Torrey and his wife Christine of East Longmeadow, her thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Richard Torrey Sr., her son Richard Torrey Jr., her daughter Cynthia Bedard and her husband Robert Bedard, and her three sisters. Barbara’s family would like to thank Emily and Harriet of the Dialysis Center of Western Mass and the Palliative Care Visiting Nurse Tom Brown for their amazing care of Barbara. A celebration of Barbara’s life will begin Tuesday May 11, 2021 with calling hours from 10:30am-12:30pm in Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation, 220 N. Main St., East Longmeadow. A funeral ceremony will follow at 12:30pm. Burial will be at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Memorial contributions in Barbara’s name may be made to Soldier On, Inc., 425 N.
