Ann Claire (Davin) Ranahan passed away with her family by her side on Friday, March 15, 2019. Born in Springfield, Ann was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anne (McHale) Davin. “Babe” grew up on Hungry Hill in Springfield and was a graduate of the High School of Commerce, class of 1942. Upon her early graduation from high school, she went to work for the Farmer’s Exchange in West Springfield, MA. She married her husband Robert P. (“Bud”) Ranahan, Sr. on May 3, 1947 and they had five children who were her pride and joy.
Ann was a wonderful caregiver to her children and cherished her time with family. She loved gathering together for holidays and vacationing with family on Cape Cod. “Gram” was in her element when caring for her grandchildren. She never missed a school event or dance recital, and always enjoyed day trips to visit her granddaughters at college. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Church in Longmeadow.
Ann is survived by her four caring children: Robert P. Ranahan, Jr. of Longmeadow, Susan M. Dukeshire and her husband Kenneth of Longmeadow, Jeffrey T. Ranahan of Dorchester and Judith A. Ranahan of Springfield; her three adored grandchildren: Jennifer Orlando and her husband Christopher, Erin Dukeshire and Sarah Dukeshire; and her much loved niece, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Ann was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert P. Ranahan, Sr. in 1976, a son Steven M. Ranahan and her daughter-in-law Anne Marie Ranahan.
A celebration of Ann’s life will begin with visiting hours on Monday, March 18, 2019 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation on 220 N. Main Street in East Longmeadow. On Tuesday, March 19, 2018 ceremonies will begin at 9:45 AM at the funeral home, then an 11 AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church in Longmeadow, and burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Springfield.
