Charles Joseph “C.J.” Scarff McKee
1983 - 2017

With profound sadness we mourn the passing of our beloved son, Charles Joseph Scarff McKee, age 34, who entered into eternal peace on September 15, 2017 due to a heroin overdose after a long and courageous battle with addiction. While we are deeply saddened to see him go, we are relieved that his struggle has ended and he is now at peace. He grew up a happy easy child. C. J. was a spiritual man with a kind and caring soul. He touched many and always encouraged them to do their best even in his time of great struggle. He loved his family with all his heart. He was a 2001 graduate of Longmeadow High School. In 2015 he became a licensed CDL driver and worked in the trucking industry. He leaves behind his mother and father, Marianna Scarff McKee and Charles J. McKee. He is also survived by his best friend, Sarah Sibilia and her family, of Wilbraham, dear friends Robert and Diane Farrell of Longmeadow and the entire Farrell family, his Aunt Fran and Uncle Herman (McKee) Davis of Michigan, his uncles, Ewart Scarff of Arkansas, S. Thomas Scarff of Indiana and David (Hope) Scarff of Iowa. He had a loving supportive extended family with many close cousins. It is the family's hope that the cruel disease of addiction will be seen with a broader degree of acceptance and de-stigmatization and a sense of urgency will be brought to this brutal health crisis affecting so many families. C.J. was a strong and brave young man who fought his addiction for 18 years but ultimately lost the battle. We will love and miss him for the rest of our lives. The family will gather and receive friends on Saturday, September 23, starting at 2 p.m with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. at the Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow. Burial is private. Memorial donations may be made to The Herren Project, PO Box 131, Portsmouth, RI  02871.
