East Longmeadow - Carroll A. Craven, 70, of East Longmeadow, passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 15th at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow, with her loving family at her side. Carroll was born in Holyoke to Edward P. and Mildred E. (Blackmore) Craven. She was a 1965 graduate of East Longmeadow High School and received her Associates Degree in 1967 from Bay Path College in Longmeadow, MA. In earlier years, Carroll was employed as a Secretary at Milton Bradley in East Longmeadow and later as a Secretary for the Director of Real Property at the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Springfield where she worked for 20 years. Carroll was a free spirit and had a love for nature and animals, especially her dogs. She was an accomplished equestrian and enjoyed her involvement with 4-H horse shows at the Big E and all throughout New England. She won many awards and championships in equine competitions including challenge trail rides. She leaves her mother, Mildred (Blackmore) Craven of East Longmeadow; three sisters, Eileen Galano (Jay) of Wilbraham, Anne Millett (Donald) of East Longmeadow and Susan Contreras (Desi) of Chula Vista, CA and by many nieces and nephews. Carroll cherished her RMV friends as well as her Home Health Aides, doctors and nurses at The D’amour Cancer Center as well as Baystate Medical Center and JGS, friends who helped get her to appointments, family friends and Eileen R. who brought her Communion, friendship and put her at ease. She was comforted by Fr. Murphy and Fr. Biernat and others who visited and prayed with her and for her at the end of her journey, which gave her great peace. A funeral mass will be Mon Nov. 20th at 11 AM St Mary’s Church, 27 Somers Rd., Hampden, MA with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, in Hampden as well. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carroll’s memory to Operation Family Fund, an organization that assists the injured and families of those who have been injured as a part of the global war on terrorism, whether domestic or abroad, military or civilian.
